SPF Rx: Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs

The SPF Rx program in Nashville, Tennessee, is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) as part of a national effort to address prescription drug misuse—particularly opioids.

Launched by SAMHSA in 2016, the SPF Rx initiative supports states, tribes, and communities in preventing prescription drug misuse through the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).

National Focus Areas Include:
  • Reducing opioid overdoses
  • Enhancing Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs)
  • Educating providers and the public on safe prescribing practices
Why Nashville?

Honoring the Life of Dr. Louis Rashann Anderson

(April 10th, 1973 – May 22nd, 2026)

Dr. A’s care for others was evident in every aspect of his life. Especially during his time at Today’s Hope, serving as the Director of our Strategic Prevention Framework Division.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Dr. A was known for his wisdom and continued encouragement towards anyone who had the pleasure of sitting across from him.

His vision for a Healthier Nashville continues to act as a guiding light for Today’s Hope. We are extremely grateful for the time, energy, and gentle heart he devoted to our mission and to the communities we continue to serve.

An exert from his favorite movie, Shawshank Redemption, reminds us of that:

“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and good things never die” – Andy Dufrense
