Opioid Prevention Program (OPP)
Compassionate Action in the Face of Crisis
Opioid Prevention Program (OPP)
Supported by the Opioid Abatement Council, the Opioid Prevention Program (OPP) responds to the opioid crisis with urgency, education, and heart.
Through OPP, Today’s Hope works to:
- Raise awareness about opioid risks and misuse
- Provide evidence-based education to individuals and families
- Foster open, stigma-free conversations that lead to healing and recovery
Our goal is to empower Nashville’s most vulnerable communities to make informed choices, seek help without shame, and move forward with confidence and support.
Empowerment Through Awareness
As part of the SPF Rx (Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs) initiative, we deliver targeted outreach and education focused on promoting wellness and safer practices.
We focus on:
- Helping individuals understand the dangers of opioid misuse
- Promoting safe medication practices in homes and communities
- Reaching underserved populations with culturally relevant, data-informed resources
Because education saves lives—and awareness is the first step toward prevention.
Opioid Prevention in Action
Our team offers a comprehensive, multi-layered approach to prevention that includes:
Prescription Drug Monitoring Education
We train healthcare providers, pharmacists, and community leaders on using Tennessee’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) to reduce high-risk prescribing and prevent overuse.
Naloxone Distribution & Overdose Prevention
We provide free Narcan (naloxone) kits and training to individuals, families, and community members—particularly those in high-risk groups—to prevent fatal overdoses.
Safe Medication Practices
Through outreach and one-on-one support, we teach individuals how to properly store, handle, and dispose of medications, reducing the chances of diversion or accidental misuse.
Why Nashville?
Tennessee has consistently ranked among the states with the highest opioid prescription rates in the U.S. In Davidson County (Nashville), rising opioid-related deaths—including those involving heroin and fentanyl—prompted urgent action and federal support through SPF Rx.
Through SPF Rx, our work is designed to:
- Reduce inappropriate opioid prescribing
- Expand community access to naloxone
- Complement broader state-level prevention and wellness initiatives
We’re proud to be part of the solution.
